Help me grow!
Wand-like shaped stems gracefully grow thick at the base and taper to a point, with fleshy oval-shaped leaves. These attractive dark green leaves have a waxy, shiny coating that fools many into believing that these are made of plastic, and insist that it must be an artificial plant!
- I do best when left alone; in fact, just like cacti, I need less, rather than more water.
- Water me only when my soil completely dries out, around every 2-3 weeks.
- I do well under low to bright indirect light.
- Feed me with a half-strength fertilizer, only once or twice a year, and that too only in summer. It is not mandatory though!
- Since all my parts are poisonous, I’m best kept out of reach of nibbling pets and overtly curious kids.
- Extremely resistant to diseases and pests.
- My natural glossy leaves appreciate a gentle wipe with a damp washcloth once in a while to clean away accumulated dust and restore my inherent shine.
- Average home humidity suits me and I can also tolerate dry air quite well.
FAQs
- How to propagate this plant?
I grow from large thick potato-shaped rhizomes that store water and are the reason why I thrive in droughts or even when neglected for ages. Propagating me is as simple as separating these rhizomes and replanting them or using stem and leaf cuttings. - How do you go about repotting the plant?
A well-draining all-purpose potting mix is perfect. Changing pots once a year ensures longevity without worry about overgrown roots or nutrient-depleted soil.
